Frequent Cebu visitor, modern day Filipino hero and world boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is set to embark on a Cebu travel to play the role of Lapulapu in the coming Kadaugan sa Mactan celebration in Cebu. The Kadaugan sa Mactan is a reenactment of the 16th century Battle of Mactan between the the men of Cebuano chieftain Lapulapu and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan who. The event happened on April 21, 1521 when Datu Lapulapu, the Cebuano acknowledged as the first Malay to stand up against Western invaders, refused to pay homage to the King of Spain. The Cebuano warriors cut short Magellan's Cebu travel in that Cebu battle. Lapulapu City in Mactan Island was named after the Cebuano chieftain who is also known as the first Filipino hero, as homage to his showcase of Cebuano pride and bravery.
